Setting up this site was agreed at the Annual General Meeting of the Honiton and Tiverton Constituency Labour Party (hereafter CLP) on 18th November 2015.
The CLP currently has two Branch Labour Parties (BLP) – Tiverton BLP and Honiton & Axe Valley BLP – but they meet irregularly. At the time, an attempt to form a third branch in Seaton attracted only six supporters, so it was decided to set up an informal virtual branch (VBLP?) without the status or machinery of a proper branch. Following the renaissance of Labour during the June 2017 election the Seaton branch has become more active. It also includes members in surrounding villages.
The site is set up and maintained by me, James Semple. I am a registered Party member and was a Trade Union member before I retired; but I joined the Party only when Jeremy Corbyn was elected Leader – which makes me a Corbynista.
However, I think it is important to work within Party structures – insofar as they apply to us. It was agreed at the CLP that our branch has no official status, but will report to the secretary of our BLP as a matter of information. What we do with ourselves otherwise is up to us.
